Children’s Programs
All Saints’ is blessed with lots of children, and the programs we offer for them reflect the importance we place on their care -- physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Parents are always welcome to visit our nurseries and classrooms, and are also encouraged to participate as volunteers in The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and Vacation Bible School.

Volunteers are regularly needed to aid and enhance our children’s programs at All Saints’ Episcopal Church. There is a need for woodworking, painting, sculpting, sewing, calligraphy, photo copying, cutting paper collage pieces and greeters. If any of these areas draw you, please let us know.

Vacation Bible School
The theme for Vacation Bible School at All Saints’ is the Bethlehem Marketplace. Each year for one week the rooms and grounds of the church are transformed into an authentic marketplace, with tents, costumes and activities all created to encourage children to imagine what it was like to live in the time of Jesus.

There are many ways to help, both long before Bible school starts, as well as during the week it takes place. There are also many levels of involvement, from making snacks, to serving as a “Tribal” mother, to teaching children how to make dreidals. We welcome all help!

Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Time: Sunday morning during the 8:45 and 11:00 services

Children ages 3 - Kindergarten can participate in the Liturgy of the Word. In this program we emphasize the rituals of our liturgy and follow the structure of the adult’s Liturgy of the Word. We pray a collect, reflect on the Gospel of the day, collect an offering, exchange the peace, and share our own personal prayers. When the exchange of the peace takes place during the service upstairs, parents come get their children and take them back for Holy Eucharist.

Where do I take my child?
Children who participate in the Liturgy of the Word go to the Yellow Door Room in Ebaugh Hall, which opens out into the courtyard.

Ages 3 years - 6th Grade

Ages 3 years* - 5th grade - These children participate in The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (www.cgsusa.org), an approach to the religious formation of children. It is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an "atrium," a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials that they use.
*By August 31, 2007.

5th and 6th Grade: All Saints’ also offers a class for fifth and sixth graders called Learning and Living the Life of Christ. This class is developed and taught by Win Schepps, and meets in the undercroft, below the sanctuary, in the preschool.
From the angel appearing to Mary to the upper room on Pentecost, this class will study the life of Jesus Christ and reflect on how we can live more Christ-like lives based on Christ’s Final Commandment, “Love one another as I have loved you.” Service Projects include: serving at St. Andrew’s soup Kitchen, helping at St. Martin’s retirement home for “The Blessing of the Animals,” preparing a meal for the homeless families who stay at All Saints’, doing a one-hour prayer vigil on Maundy Thursday, hosting an end of the year car wash to raise funds for a charity of the children’s choice, and many more.
