Adult Classes
My Work, God’s Work.
Location: Great Hall
Instructor: The Reverend Eric Stelle, estelle@allsaintsbirmingham.org, (205)879-8651, ext. 231.
This fall we’ll focus on the theme of vocation and career, exploring ways in which our “secular” work is equally as crucial to the mission and heart of God as the “sacred” work of the Church. The class will be a combination of lecture and small group work that will allow everyone who is interested to explore their particular work in light of the Kingdom of God. Lectures will also include instruction in the classical practice of spiritual discernment. This class will meet in the Great Hall.
Weekday Music Jam
Location: Jackson-Thorpe Room
Leader: Randolph Horn
rchorn@samford.edu, (205)879-1363
Do you love to play an instrument? Join Randolph Horn and other musicians for a music jam each Wednesday night in the Jackson-Thorpe Room.
Choir Programs for Youth
Do you have a child who loves to sing? All children aged three and up are invited to serve God in His church by offering special music for some of our services throughout the year.
The Good Shepherd Choir (formerly the Junior Choir) is for children ages 3-6 and meets Wednesday evenings from 6:15-6:30 p.m. in the choir room. During this brief time we will joyfully sing and dance as we learn new songs, with a focus on a love of music rather than performance. Children will be exposed to instrument play, correct singing technique, and will work toward basic music competence. The children will sing choral introits before the 11:00 service a few times a year, as well as present special music for Christmas Eve and Easter.
The All Saints’ Children’s Choir is for boys and girls ages seven and older and meets Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:10 p.m. in the choir room. We will sing more challenging pieces, focusing on good technique and basic musicianship skills. This group will have some special outings this year, including a caroling party in December and a concert in the spring, and we present a musical every other year. The Children’s Choir sings about one Sunday a month during the school year, and presents special music for Christmas Eve, Easter, and Pentecost.
Contact Susie Youngson at syoungson@bellsouth.net or 823-9495 if you have questions about either choir.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
ALL atria will be opened on Wednesday nights as follows:
Level 1: 3-6 year olds
Level 2: 6-9 year olds
Level 3: 9-12 year olds
Please note: On Wednesday nights 6th graders are welcome to attend the Level 3 atrium.
Youth
We hear a lot these days about how kids are stressed out by their schedules; there are too many activities in too few days. At All Saints’ we believe it is important to provide opportunities for our kids to slow down, and to encourage them take time to reflect on their lives and on God’s purpose for them. Weekday gatherings for prayer present youth with a break in the week guaranteed to recharge them.
“Oasis” time for teenagers at All Saints’ is a relaxing break from homework and extracurricular activities, and gives us a chance to hang out with each other and to be free to be yourself. Everyone is invited at 6:00 for dinner with the whole church, and then at 6:30, everyone goes to the youth room. Someone from the group leads an evening prayer and reflection time. Then everyone spends the rest of the time making a lot of noise and playing games. Sometimes we’ll have a game of hide-and-seek, sometimes board, card or video games and occasionally a bonfire with plenty of marshmallows.
